How to Measure Fetal Heart Rate With Fetal Doppler

Due to limited time or other reasons, some pregnant mothers hope to listen to their baby's heartbeat at home. Now we'll tell you how to measure your baby's heartbeat at home!

1. Preparation of fetal heart rate meter before use

Gestational age: if you listen to your baby's heartbeat at home, it is recommended that you be pregnant after 16 weeks.

Time: the best time to listen to fetal heart rate is 30-60 minutes after breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Environment: there is no electromagnetic or radiation interference around.

Auxiliary: couplant.

2. Use a flat position

Mothers to be, please find a more comfortable, quiet and undisturbed environment to lie flat, head slightly higher, legs straight, mood relaxed, although you are looking forward to it, don't get excited. At the same time, when lying flat, the position of fetal heart will be closer to the abdominal wall of pregnant women, and the distance from the probe is also closer, so the fetal heart sound is easier to hear.

3. Apply couplant

Apply coupling agent, water or edible oil on the belly. The coupling agent is applied because the ultrasonic wave is easily lost in the air. Its function is to squeeze out the air in the pores of the skin and make the probe in close contact with the skin. Turn on the fetal heart rate meter, put the probe on the stomach, and start to look for the fetal heart rate position.

4. Looking for fetal heart position

Looking for the fetal heart position is the most difficult to control in the whole Doppler fetal heart meter family monitoring, but it is also an important link to determine whether the monitoring is successful. So, mom and friends, you must read it carefully here. If you understand it, you will save more time and get twice the result with half the effort.

Before the first use, open the battery cover of the fetal heart rate meter and install the battery. It can be plugged into the headphone jack of the host, or it can be directly listened to.

Put the probe close to the abdominal wall, use a little soft force, not just gently stand on your belly, so as to prevent the noise caused by the air between the probe and the belly, and make the signal receive better. The simplest way to find the location of fetal heart rate is to refer to the location of the probe placed by the doctor during the fetal heart rate examination in the hospital. The fetal heart rate can be heard clearly. Generally, listen for 1-2 minutes each time, and calculate the fetal heart rate in 1 minute. 120-160 beats / minute is the normal range.

If the reference doctor listens to the fetal heart position and does not hear the baby's heartbeat, the expectant mother can slowly move the probe nearby. The rule of fetal heart position is as follows: because the fetal position in the uterus will change, the fetal heart position is not invariable. We should know the following rules:

(A) Six months ago, the fetal heart rate was usually located in the middle or both sides of the midline of the lower umbilicus.

(B) At 6-8 months, as the fetus grows up, the position of fetal heart will also move up. Because fetal movement is usually in the hands and feet of the fetus, when the right side feels frequent fetal movement, the fetal heart rate is generally on the left side; when the left side feels frequent fetal movement, the fetal heart rate is generally on the right side.

(C) Fetal heart sounds are transmitted from the fetal scapula, so the fetal heart sounds are most clearly heard in the abdominal wall of pregnant women near the upper part of the fetal back. Head position and breech position can also affect the location of fetal heart rate. In head position, fetal heart rate is on the left or right side of umbilicus, while in breech position, fetal heart rate is on the left or right side of umbilicus. (the blue one below is the navel)

If the fetal heart rate deviates from the probe due to fetal movement or other reasons, resulting in the interruption or instability of fetal heart rate signal, please re search the fetal heart rate position according to the following methods.

5. Listen to fetal heart rate and reading

Find the correct fetal heart position, after hearing the baby's stable and continuous fetal heart sound, stand still for a period of time, let the fetal heart meter probe receive the stable and continuous fetal heart signal, then the displayed value is desirable. Note that at this time the value is not static, but there will be small fluctuations.
